Matthew Rhoad (b. 2004) is an ASCAP affiliated Composer/Performer based out of Indianapolis, Indiana. Matthew has been performing music for over a decade and has gone on to perform with and compose for dozens of ensembles. He performed with Fishers High School Percussion ensemble for five years, winning numerous Scholastic World national titles. His performances include appearances at The Jazz Kitchen, Clowes Hall, the Schrott Center for the Arts, and the Circle City Theater in Indianapolis. Other performance groups include symphony and wind ensembles, jazz quartets, Latin jazz group, and percussion ensembles. He is currently studying Percussion Performance with Jon Crabiel at Butler University.
As a composer, Matthew is known for his constant changing of color and texture throughout his music through the use of self imposed limitations and a push to have all of his pieces more unique than the last. Matthew has been taught by and has worked alongside other composers such as Micheal Schelle, Frank Felice, Miho Sasaki, Joshua Marquez and Zae Munn. He prides himself on his diverse range of musical compositions from saxophone quartets to full chamber orchestra. Matthew currently attends Butler University, working towards his bachelor’s degrees in Music Composition and Percussion Performance.
Matthew is a teaching artist through Butler University, teaching private lessons for all percussion instruments to students ages 8 to 16.
