Matthew Rhoad's first String Quartet was composed in the summer of 2026. Matthew was heavily inspired by the string compositions of Giacinto Scelsi and György Ligeti's compositional technique of Micro-polyphony. Matthew wrote certain sections of this piece to have all of the string players play around with vibrato in different ways while they all play the exact same pitch emphasizing the tambres of each string instrument.
